NorthPaws Veterinary Center strongly believes in maintaining proper oral health in all of our patients. If allowed to progress, dental disease can not only be painful but it can also lead to other serious issues such as heart, bone, liver and kidney problems. Therefore, we recommend regular dental cleanings for all pets as well as the use of home dental care which can include the tooth brushing, oral rinses, and dental chews among other things to help maintain optimal oral health in your dog or cat.
Our dental services include teeth cleaning (with ultrasonic scaling and polishing) as well as extraction of damaged or diseased teeth and other oral surgery. Although you may have had your pet's teeth scaled during a previous office visit at another clinic, we perform all of our dental procedures under general anesthesia as is recommended by the American Animal Hospital Association. This ensures the highest quality of care for your pet and allows us to not just scale the teeth and remove any tartar but also to polish the newly cleaned surface to remove any traces of the rough areas created by scaling where plaque will otherwise accumulate in the future. By using anesthesia we are also able to clean below the gumline which is essential in proper dental care and the prevention of other diseases.
